A Colorful Home Full of Love

Posted by on

Recently we were asked by Design Sponge our tips on adding warmth to a room.  We love the question so much because it's truly what our home embodies to us.  We are big fans of color, textures, patterns and layers, most importantly living with things we love.  We don't fit in a box when it comes to style, we have created our own by surrounding ourselves with intentional pieces.  We are also big believers in lighting.  Our house is dark in the main quarters so lamps and soft lighting bring it alive throughout the day.

Living Room South

Our living room is North facing which means it has limited natural light.  Instead of fighting the darkness and painting the room white we went with a deep emerald green by Benjamin Moore; this gave our naturally dark living room a rich depth and warmth.  We painted all the rooms in our house from their Williamsburg Collection. Williamsburg was a huge influence on the design of our home which was built in the late 1800's.  We flanked the main wall here in the entry way with a local artist painting by Bryn Adamson.

Living Room North

We are greatly influenced in our own work and home by Japanese Design and Southern utility,  blending the two into a space that is comfortable and inviting.  Our curtains definitely make a statement and guided the design of this room.  To display their beauty, we hand forged special curtain rods so that when we close them at night they hang as works of art.  They are a design by Rebecca Rebouche for Anthropologie.

We have a few black and white ink wash paintings by one of our favorite Etsy artists, Eden Some scattered throughout the living room.  We love textiles of all kinds and particularly Shumacher fabrics.  Our Chaing Mai Dragon pillow on the couch and our floor cushions in Ninjing Jade, compliment our various throws from India beautifully.

We believe strongly that a homes warmth comes from love. Being able to design pieces for our home has been incredibly fulfilling.  In our living room, the side table, coffee table, Oleole Table Lamps, Japanese low table, large brass bowl atop the coffee table and hand turned vase on the mantle were all designed and made by us.    Our mid century modern inspired soft blue couch is both functional and beautiful, crafted by the American made furniture company Thrive Furniture.
