White Oak Board
You were just old enough to remember cooking with your Grandmother. The sounds, scents and textures. She pulls down her own grandmothers board for you to cut on. It's not sentimental yet, it's utilitarian and purposeful. Years later, now in your own kitchen as you cut and think back, this family board is now sentimental and makes you smile.
Details:
- There's no secret our favorite wood is Georgia white oak. We use it for everything: chopsticks, bowls, spoons and of course serving boards. This particular piece grew and was cut down only a few miles from our home. This is the first piece cut from a longer board and shows the crack created from air drying with the end grain exposed. Typically this piece would be cut off and discarded but we like this part of the story and choose to celebrate the flaw. We also contrasted the board with a carved and finished handle with a charred hole for hanging.
